WSOP - Ladies Event
Main Event WSOP
The poker boom is affecting women from all walks of life. From college students to grandmothers and from homemakers to celebrities. More women are playing poker nowadays. With the advantages that online poker rooms provide and the multitude of televised poker programs, women are being exposed to poker on a greater scale, No-Limit Texas Hold'em in particular."
Women nowadays are playing in the WSOP event, although most of the big-name female professional poker players (e.g. Jennifer Harman, Annie Duke, etc.) won't enter the Ladies Only tournament because, in my opinion, they want to be judged as poker players, not 'female poker players'.
At 2005 the number of entries to the Ladies Event was increase. A record number 601 women players bought in for $1,000 to try to win a poker bracelet. The top 54 places were paid prize money in a pool of $546,910.

Leading Women in 2005 WSOP - The Official World Championship of Poker
No Limit Texas Holdem 2005
One of the 15 poker players leaders at the WSOP 2005 Main Event was Tiffany Williamson - a woman from London. At some point in the tournament, Williamson has taken over the chip lead at the toughest table in the toughest position in the room. Tiffany Williamson had Greg Raymer and Tim Phan in her small and big blinds when she has the button.
WSOP 2005 result: Tiffany finished 15th and won $400,000, which is highest for a woman in the Main Event and the second highest single cash in WSOP history. Tiffany Williamson's 5's were history. She receives a standing ovation from the crowd.
In the WSOP's 36-year-history, only one member of the fairer sex has reached the final table in the fifth place 1995 - Barbara Enright. But Enright, along with former Miss Teen Oklahoma and pro Clonie Gowen (Full Tilt Poker) were knocked out of the tournament at day 5 of WSOP 2005.
