Basic Strategy

According to the rules of Omaha hi-low the winner must split the pot with the player who has the best qualifying low hand. Sometimes there is no a player with a low hand that qualifies him for the part of the pot. In such cases it would be perfect to get the entire pot for yourself. That happens during Omaha hi-low poker games. There are certain requirements which you need to correspond to in order to win both ways. If you want your hand to qualify for low, you must have five denominations – no higher than eight. Two of your down cards must be played for high, and two for low respectively. For each direction players must play two out of their hands. Keep in mind, that Aces can be played for both high and low hands. Straights and flushes are not suitable for low hand. For example, if a player has 5,4,3,2,A at the end, then his hand would be invincible and then he would have a five high straight for playing for the high.

It is obvious that a player possessing such a hand has most chances of winning both high and low ways. When you play split pot games getting hold of the entire pot will be very helpful and will give you a considerable push forward, compared with winning only half the pot. It is more than twice as much according to statistics. The hands recommended here are played by Omaha hi-low poker experts as starting hands. It may also happen that after the flop (or the turn) it seems that you have no a definite nut for one end and can’t succeed with the other one – then in such kind of situation it makes a lot of sense to fold and wait for the next hand.
