WSOP - World Series of Poker 2007

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) offers events in varieties of poker, including Lowball, Seven-card stud and Omaha. But the biggest and most popular event is the iconic game of Texas Hold 'em. In fact, the last game of the WSOP 2007, the one in which the eventual winner is crowned champion, is a marathon game of No-limit Hold 'em. There are many legendary players that believe the purest form of the game is No-limit. But this form -- as opposed to Pot-limit, where players can only bet up to a certain amount within each round of betting -- is not for the faint of heart. Players can go from being chip leaders to out of the game within the span of one risky hand.

You could be the next World Series of Poker Main Event Winner. That’s the beauty of poker – anyone can win. Last year, in the 2006 WSOP, Mr. Jamie Gold beat an amazing field of 8,773 poker players in the $10,000 Texas Hold’em No-Limit Main Event and became the World Champion of Poker. Only 36 years old, the former talent agent from California played poker so well that he eradicated 8 out of the 9 final table players. Gold’s winning hand was a Q-9 after he went all-in and picked up a Queen on the flop. Mr. Paul Wasicka, having a much smaller chip stack, called with his pocket 10’s. Gold’s hand held up and he scooped the title, the bracelet, and the unprecedented $12,000,000 grand prize. He went into the poker history books.

This year you could enter your name into the poker history books, and win your WSOP title just like Chris Moneymaker did back in 2003. Moneymaker won his WSOP seat through a $30 buy-in satellite in Poker Stars, and fittingly became the star of the 2003 World Series of Poker.

WPT - World Poker Tour

The World Poker Tour (WPT) is one of the most popular TV show about poker. Viewers get to watch the hole cards of the players, so they can follow the action from the player’s perspective. A major part of the attraction is the high quality of the poker that is filmed. All tournaments are high buy-in tournaments and the players are among the best in the world. In spite of this, the WPT tournaments are open for anyone who wishes to enter, so occasionally an amateur reaches the final table and battles it out against the poker pros.

The first episode of the World Poker Tour was recorded at the Bellagio hotel in Las Vegas in 2002. The tournament was 'The Diamond World Poker Classic' and it had 146 entrants, each paying an entrance fee of $10,000. From that point it just went on, season 1 contained another 12 episodes recorded at major tournaments. Most of them around the USA except three that were recorded in the Caribbean, and one that took place in France. The tournaments were held between June 2002 and April 2003. The last event of the season was held at the Bellagio where it all started. The last event of the season is called the World Poker Tour Championship and costs $25,000 to enter. This is one of the most prestigious tournaments in the world to win, and the champion is highly accredited.

Some extra episodes have been added due to the high popularity of the show, like charity free-rolls with Hollywood celebrities and also tournaments with former winners playing each other. In 2004 a new branch started off the WPT and it is called the Professional Poker Tour. The PPT is an invitational tour where poker professionals only are invited to play without having to pay a buy-in fee.
